Pregnancy skincare
Everything is changing. You’ve had to review your old skincare routine (I can’t even use my spot cream?!), your skin isn’t at the ‘glowing’ stage quite yet. Not sure where to start? We’ve got you covered.
Retinol alternatives
Retinol and any other retinoids (vitamin A derivatives) are not safe to use during pregnancy. Retinoids are harmful to an unborn baby when taken orally. And therefore professionals advise against any topical use of retinoids during pregnancy. The good news is, we have found the best pregnancy safe retinol alternatives.
Salicylic acid alternatives
This one's less of a clear cut no but it is another ingredient that is generally considered best avoided during pregnancy, although some people will recommend up to 2% as being safe when applied topically. If you would prefer to avoid, other AHA acids are considered safe life glycolic and lactic (which are great for exfoliation) and niacinamide for acne and vitamin C for pigmentation.
SPF
Your skin is more sensitive while pregnant and its even MORE important to be vigilant with your daily SPF (especially with the threat of melasma).
