Spotlight on: Ostuni, a Puglian paradise

When you think of an Italian getaway it’s no surprise your mind drifts to the coast of Amalfi or the sights of Rome. But, the lesser known region of Puglia is rising in popularity, and for good reason. Puglia is the land of simple charms - long lunches, rugged Mediterranean beaches, and picturesque hillside towns all swathed in laid back luxury. Throw in incredible food and year round sunshine, and you’ve got the makings of a beautiful trip.

With travel from the UK made easy to Bari or Brindisi airports, it’s more than accessible for a long weekend or a week's holiday.

If you don’t know where to start with Puglian towns, Ostuni has our vote. Known by locals as ‘La Città Bianca’, it’s characterised by white-washed buildings and a labyrinth of mediaeval streets. You can easily mooch around the cobbled ‘centro storico’ without a plan or a map, but for those who like a plan try the terrace at Dish or the stairway of Borco Antico Bistro for Aperitivo. For dinner, the cave of Osteria Del Tempo Perso is a must-try, or ask for a table on the roof terrace at Il Posto Affianco. Finish things off with immaculate after dinner vibes on the steps at Ricardo café

Borco Antico Bistro

Hotels nearby are offering up swoon-worthy styles, with Masseria Moroseta and Masseria Dagliupi making our modern farmhouse dreams come true. If you’re looking for somewhere more private, there are heaps of BnBs offering the chance to stay in a traditional trulli.

From Ostuni you can easily visit the nearby town of Polignano a Mare; perched on top of a limestone cliff it’s the perfect Puglian pit stop. Nearby Monopoli also offers a picturesque marina, whilst Alberobello is home to the largest collection of trulli in the world, as well as being the iconic location of Dolce & Gabbana's show last year.
