Lauren Fermoile Murphy - Senior Design Director at Ronny Kobo

CREME IN CONVERSATION

“I love getting lost in archived vintage whether it’s the piece itself or how it may have been styled at the time, the inspiration can be different every way you look at it.”

What does a day in the life look like for the fashion director at Ronny Kobo?

It depends where we are in the season honestly. This opportunity position has always allowed me to wear many hats, so every day is different. It could be mood board, creating a color palette, sourcing and getting lost in inspiration as a season begins. Sketching and creating styles or all day fittings and tech packs as we are mid season. As we reach closer to market it’s more of managing all work by parts to ensure we can hand over a completed collections that aligns with our entail vision. Final days are filled with model castings, styling, photoshoots, and perfecting the line before each season drops.

How did you get your start in design?

Oddly enough I’ve wanted to be a fashion designer since I was 5 or 6 and I’ve never strayed. I was one of the only students in pre and post school interviews that my goals remained the same.

If you weren’t in fashion design, what would you be?

Possibly a stylist or finding a path in sourcing vintage. I love the hunt putting things together. I have always been drawn to something about creating/delivering a vision I become set on and the beautiful story around that. I thrive in a cohesive esthetic state of mind. There was even a brief moment when I almost went into concept design.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

It can come from anything truly, a well dressed or put together look on the street, colors put together in a unique piece of art. I love getting lost in archived vintage whether it’s the piece itself or how it may have been styled at the time, the inspiration can be different every way you look at it. A large part of my design process is also around my personal style. What I am looking to wear as this new season approaches or what had I hoped to find last year that simply did not exist or maybe not at a reachable price point.

“I am very much in the weddings era of my social life. Which is always so much fun both attending and putting together looks”

What is your favourite item from the new Ronny Kobo collection?

It is the week before Fashion Week here in New York so I have all of our Fall 2024 photoshoots back to back this week. I am so excited to see the line come to life. We are launching into denim dressing in a big way this Fall, which is new and exciting. Our outerwear and knitwear this season are fabulous. I am also loving the current skirt moment that’s happening.

Where are you spending your next break from work?

I am very much in the weddings era of my social life. Which is always so much fun both attending and putting together looks. We have a handful both here and in Europe in the next few months, the next is in Ireland.
